Hamirpur (HP), June 20 (UNI) Singing religious hymns and dancing to the tune of Jai Jagan Nath, thousands of men, women and children on Tuesday took part in the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Maan Subhadra and Lord Baldev amid chanting of religious hymns in the Hamirpur

town on Tuesday.

Earlier, the week-long Bhagwata katha ended at the local Vishnu temple from where the yatra was flagged by Vishnu Swamiji Maharaj, the Mahant of the Gauriya Math Dangri.

A tight security arrangement was also made by the local police in the wake of the Chamba incident

in which a Hindu young man was killed by people of a minority community.

A bhandara was also arranged for devotees on the occasion.

The Yatra will end at Dangri village after crossing through various parts of Hamirpur town, covering

a distance of about 18 kilometres.

Addressing the congregation, Swami Vishnu Prashadji Maharaj said that Bhagwat Katha was aimed at clearing the mind and soul of people from ill feelings and taking them to Lord Krishna, the creator of this universe.

Later on, the yatris reached Dangri Math of Gauriya sect and held a sankirtan program there and also took part in a bhandara that was largely attended.
